What VIDA diagnostics shows, and how it differs from a basic OBD scanner
A standard OBD scanner reads the engine control unit's generic fault codes and gives a general description. VIDA/DiCE is Volvo's own diagnostic and information system, which talks to every module in the car — engine, gearbox, ABS, airbags, climate, infotainment and body electronics — and shows each module's faults separately, with manufacturer-level explanations.
Beyond fault codes, VIDA also gives access to the manufacturer's technical service bulletins — known issues and their fixes that aren't in the owner's manual. Some systems (steering angle sensors, cameras, parking aids) need recalibration after a repair, which can only be done through VIDA.
That's why every diagnostic session here starts with a full system scan, not just an engine fault read-out — so nothing important gets missed.
